Everyone deserves your kindness

It’s easy to believe that not everyone deserves your kindness, your support or even attention.

Obviously it’s impossible to be friends with everyone in your life! In fact, you probably shouldn’t be. However, regardless of your feelings toward your worst “enemy”, coworker, friend or even a stranger, it’s important to practice compassion.

We’ve all heard the saying “it costs nothing to be a good person.” While it might be difficult to do sometimes, it’s so true. It costs nothing to be a compassionate person - but the benefits are endless! I’m not saying you don’t have a right to feel angry, frustrated, or disappointed with those around you (your feelings are always valid) - but your communication can take a different approach. Communicating with kindness and compassion makes us well-rounded, more understanding and approachable individuals. But it takes practice. It’s difficult to rewire and break the habit of acting or expressing yourself in a less than compassionate tone. During frustrating moments, remind yourself that whatever’s going on (more often than not) isn’t a huge deal. It’s not personal. And it’s not permanent.

When you choose to react and work with compassion, overtime you will feel less stressed regardless of the urgency or energy around you (and I think we all deserve less stress!). By practicing compassion, we are enabled to become the best version of ourselves. We are more willing to support others because we know it is the right thing to do and it  brings us peace.

And remember, compassion is contagious - when you act with kindness, it often inspires others to do the same!
